At Shop&Roll, we have continued advancing throughout 2024 in our journey to embed sustainability and corporate responsibility across all aspects of our activities, while also encouraging sustainability among our clients and improving our environment and community. In total, we have implemented 27 ESG actions, endorsed by the renowned Ecovadis certification, to align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.
The acronym ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) encompasses all the factors that make a company sustainable. All this information will be detailed in our second annual Sustainability Report, which is currently under preparation. Here are some of the key initiatives we have undertaken:
- Measuring our carbon footprint: One of our primary goals is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 for Scope 1 (direct emissions from company activities) and Scope 2 (emissions from purchased energy). Our results are certified with the “Calculo” seal, awarded by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge to organisations that record their carbon footprint, and the “Compenso” seal, which acknowledges a plan to reduce emissions and participation in a carbon absorption project through partial offsetting.
- Reducing environmental impact: Lowering greenhouse gas emissions is part of our efforts to mitigate our environmental impact and combat climate change. At both Shop&Roll headquarters, we focus on critical areas such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, and the responsible use of water.
- Zero Waste circular economy project: This pilot initiative repurposed 800 kilograms of PVC from replacing shelf-edge label holders in Leroy Merlin Spain stores with electronic label supports. The PVC was transformed into 2,400 keyrings for volunteers involved in Leroy Merlin’s educational initiative “Hazlo Verde” and two benches for Shop&Roll offices. In addition to raising awareness, this project resulted in an estimated 85–90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions during material production.
- Restoration of natural habitats: Together with Leroy Merlin and SEO BirdLife, we organised a tree-planting day to restore the natural environment along the Jarama River in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, within the Southeast Regional Park, as part of the “Clean Rivers, Save Oceans” Project.
- Donations to environmental projects: We have made financial contributions to AISECO’s efforts to restore habitats in the Gallocanta lagoon; Ayuda en Acción’s PURE project, which installs solar cookers in Uganda; and the organisation Plastic Change, which has been linked to our Oceanis line of shopping baskets and trolleys since 2020, to combat “ghost nets” that severely impact oceans.
- Solidarity with those affected by DANA storms: Following severe flooding in Valencia, we set up donation points for essential goods at our workplaces, which were delivered in Alfafar to José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen (WCK), with transport provided by Jabex.
- Stress management workshops: To promote workplace health and support our staff, we ran practical workshops in collaboration with AFDA in Zaragoza and ASAMEC in Madrid, teaching new ways to care for mental health and share valuable moments among colleagues.
- Integration of functional diversity: Partnering with ASPADIR (Parents and Friends Association for Disability in Rivas), we organised a Christmas decoration workshop, repeating a successful initiative from last year. In 2024, we also participated in their Diversity Race and donated materials for their activities.
- Collaboration on health projects: To support global access to healthcare, we partnered with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), combining financial support with raising awareness about early diagnosis. We participated in the GAVI Vaccination Alliance project with La Caixa Foundation, supporting childhood immunisations in developing countries, and helped sell tickets for the Red Cross Golden Lottery.
- Internal communication initiatives: Within the company, we held various activities to celebrate International Days related to the 2030 Agenda goals. We joined celebrations for World Oceans Day, International Women’s Day, Labour Day, Mental Health Day, International Day of Forests, Earth Day, Recycling Day, and World Environment Day.
We continue making progress to become a more efficient and responsible company every day, and our commitment is to demonstrate this with an integrated approach, measurable objectives, and precise evaluations.
