THREE SHOP&ROLL PROJECTS IN NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS HAVE OFFSET 84 TONNES OF CO₂ TO COMBAT GLOBAL WARMING.

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition has awarded us the “Compenso” seal in recognition of our involvement in environmental forest management projects, which help offset the pollutant emissions generated through our business activities. In 2024, Shop&Roll acquired carbon offset credits in three forest plantations, which have enabled the absorption of 84 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere — the equivalent of 30% of our carbon footprint (Scopes 1 and 2) over the past three years.

These reforestation initiatives act as CO₂ sinks, helping to counterbalance the greenhouse gases that we inevitably produce through our daily operations (such as electricity consumption at our facilities or the transport of goods). Forests help combat global warming and provide numerous benefits to society: increased biodiversity, soil protection, water retention, natural resource production, landscape improvement and more.

COMPENSATION PROJECTS IN 2024
This year, we have taken part in the natural regeneration of pine forests following a wildfire in the communal woodlands of Pasadela, in Rianxo (A Coruña), promoted by the Galician Forestry Association. We have also contributed to the reforestation of abandoned grazing lands in Tórtoles de Esgueva (Burgos), using native species, under the leadership of the company Crece. Additionally, we supported the planting of Scots pine in Hoyocasero (Ávila), in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos, where highly flammable shrubland had overtaken the area after decades of neglect, in a project promoted by Albiomgener.

In each of these projects, the “Compenso” seal granted Shop&Roll 28 credits—each equivalent to one tonne of carbon dioxide—representing over 30% of our carbon footprint across Scopes 1 and 2 for the years 2021 (5.46%), 2022 (10.44%) and 2023 (14.58%).

Moreover, this initiative has helped raise awareness among our employees, through a training capsule on the basics of carbon footprint and how to reduce it, as well as a vote on which projects to support.

OUR PATH TOWARDS CARBON NEUTRALITY
Crucially, these offsetting actions are carried out in parallel with our own emission reduction efforts. These two pillars drive Shop&Roll’s corporate goal of achieving carbon neutrality in Scopes 1 and 2 by 2030, contributing to the fight against global warming and supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Since 2021, we have recorded our carbon footprint for Scopes 1 (direct emissions) and 2 (indirect emissions from electricity), which has also earned us the “Calculo” seal from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition. Emissions relative to turnover have steadily decreased thanks to measures such as improved energy efficiency, the use of electricity from renewable sources, and responsible water usage.

For the 2022–2023 period, our data show that gross carbon emissions decreased by 8% at our Madrid headquarters and 2% in Zaragoza. Our next goal is to earn the “Reduzco” seal this year, awarded upon demonstrating a sustained reduction over at least four years.

In addition to reducing and offsetting our direct emissions, we have also begun working on reducing Scope 3 emissions, which include other indirect emissions such as those from raw material sourcing and post-consumer product recycling. This way, Shop&Roll continues contributing as a company to sustainable development.
