An alliance that looks to the sea

Removing plastics and protecting sea turtle nests on the beaches of the Valencian Community are the main lines of action of the agreement we have signed with the NGO Xaloc Mar, which has been working on marine conservation since 2009. With this collaboration, we are strengthening our environmental and social commitment, in line with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On the eve of World Oceans Day on 8 June, Shop&Roll and Xaloc Mar have sealed this agreement, which will run for three years with the aim of continuity, to drive initiatives that have a direct positive impact on the conservation of the sea as a space for life.

We will therefore support beach waste collection campaigns, in which Xaloc Mar removes all kinds of debris, especially microplastics. These materials, too small to be filtered by local services, cause millions of deaths every year in marine wildlife and flora. In addition, we will join the cleanup days carried out by volunteers.

We will also contribute to the custody of loggerhead turtle nests, one of the most emblematic and vulnerable species of this ecosystem. During the breeding season, the eggs will be protected until the hatchlings reach the sea.

Alongside the financial support, the agreement includes information and awareness actions both for the Shop&Roll team and

for the general public.

SHOP&ROLL AND SDG 14

This collaboration is part of our strategy to integrate sustainability and corporate responsibility throughout our activity. Our goal is not only to reduce the impact of our business, but also to actively contribute to improving the environment and the community.

With this purpose, we are joining Xaloc Mar, which over fifteen years has collected more than 60,000 kilos of waste from beaches and released 630 small turtles into the sea. It also collaborates with companies in the recycling sector to find the most effective way to reuse discarded plastic.

In this way, we are strengthening our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 14: to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and their resources. A goal we already aligned with in 2020 with the launch of the Oceanis range of baskets and trolleys, made from plastic from discarded fishing nets and helping to fight “ghost nets”. In addition, part of the profits from this range have been donated to the NGO Plastic Change.
